Old Business
August Regional - Low turnout, total of 86 cars. Weather was good, but always a chance of rain both days. Looking at possibly changing date for better attendance.
New Business
Elections are approaching in November. Seven positions to fill this year.
Carl nominated Paul Morrison to retain the Regional Executive seat.
Bill Pintaric and Chris Turkali were nominated to fill the Assistant Regional Executive position.
Secretary nominations were Bev Nutter and Tom Nutter.
We have three trustee positions to fill.
Bill Kasmer nominated Sandi Kryder
for Treasurer
SCCA National Championship Runoffs presented by KOHLER - Reed Kryder stated that for as small as our region is, nine out of fifteen national drivers are qualified to attend this year’s event from September 20-26, 2004.
Brian Golay, a new F500 driver from our region who attended this years driving school, qualified sixth for the Runoffs at Mid-Ohio. When Greg Grucella was questioned as to why he did not attend the Runoffs, his response was the traveling was too time consuming.
Carl Holbrook suggested that the participants be wearing apparel supporting our region at the Runoffs.
The Western Ohio Region (WOR) games are approaching at Mid-Ohio. Carl and Greg plan to race. Cliff McCandless made the motion that the region pays the attendance fee. Motion passed. Paul Morrison will be working at the event.
In the October '04 issue of SportsCar magazine, under DIVISIONAL REPORTS, there was a very positive article on how our region promotes our activities and how management at Nelson Ledges continues to make the facility more select.
In keeping up with the upgrades, management at Nelson Ledges has stated that a paving project involving pit lane is estimated to be in the tune of $45,000.
Thinking about dates for our races next year.
Motion to adjourn by Sandi Kryder at 8:38pm and seconded by the mass.
SCCA National Run-Offs - by Sandi Kryder
Mahoning Valley was well represented at this years SCCA National Run-Offs.
Here is a short synopsis of their run for the gold.
F500 - Doug Marsh put his car on the pole with a new lap record of 1:30.176. He led the entire race but lost the championship in tech. I have not heard why he was DSQ’d.
Bryan Golay, also driving a F500, just started racing this year. He qualified 7th and ran most of the race in 4th until lap 14 when he was knocked off course and finished 17th the race.
GT 1 - Amy Ruman qualified 6th and finished 9th. She got hit on the start, which resulted in a cracked header. She had to breathe the exhaust fumes the entire race. The last 2 laps were probably the longest of her racing career. Medical was waiting for her when she pitted after the checker flag. She was released from medical a couple hours later after receiving some much-needed oxygen.
GT 4 - Bill Pintaric had 3 National wins and won the divisional championship in GT 4, but is still waiting for that elusive podium finish at the Run-offs. Bill’s car suffered from an oil leak problem most of the week, but thought that problem was behind him after a good warm up session on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, Bill had to retire his car on lap 4 with a bad vibration from the rear of the car.
EP - Gary Martz ended up winning the EP championship in NeDiv. His good race motor blew up mid week leaving him with only his tired motor for the race. While changing motors, Gary smashed/cut his thumb badly, however, being the trooper he is, raced despite the pain. Gary qualified 30th and finished 20th.
FP - David Strittmatter had his week cut short when he cut the tendons on his right hand while trimming a brake duct the Saturday prior to the start of the event. He had to have surgery and was told by the doctors not to even try to race. On the plus side of this - he was able to get his entry fee back since he was unable to turn a wheel on the track.
GP - This was the first year at the Run-Offs for both Andy Deatherege and Matt Miller.
Andy qualified 4th, but got into Kent Prather on about lap 4 and DNF’d.
Matt Miller was driving Bill Pintarics old Datsun 510 which he converted from GT 4 to GP. Matt qualified 26th and finished 17th and managed to miss the melee at turn 1 just a few laps from the end.
AS - Csaba Bujdoso spent most of the race watching from the gravel trap at turn 8. He qualified 6th, but had a couple of off road excursion before ending up in the gravel trap.
Nina & Filippo Caruso, Matias & Sarah Bonnier, Jennifer Badger and I all worked at the Run-Offs. Paul Morrison was working for Hoosier. I’m sure there were other MVR members who worked but I just did not see them. There were a lot of other familiar faces from Nelson’s working too.
Golden Harvest Double Regional
Our final event for 2004 is the ever-popular
Golden Harvest. This year the date is Oct. 16 & 17. As always, we
need workers. If you are not racing - won’t you please come out and
work. All race specialties need workers.
NEDIV MINI CON
The NeDiv Mini Con is Nov. 12-14 in
Uniondale, Long Island, NY. I have not found any details as of 9/30/04;
so keep looking on the NESCCA web site for them.
