RE REPORT - Paul Morrison

PAST    PRESENT   FUTURE

MVR has just held another very good drivers school and although there wasn't an overwhelming number of students the usual high quality of instruction and friendliness was there. A change in location for the Friday class and tech inspection was needed as Nelson Ledges had rented the track to a protection training service for the week for training drivers in terrorist avoidance. The pyrotechnics and cars needing repair were proof that this was as realistic as possible.  Tech was held outside the maintenance building and the classroom were held in a trailer by registration. The tech area was wet due to the rain and the classroom was a bit crowded but all was accomplished in good order and the presentations were well done. Thank you to all who volunteered and attended and especially to Bill Kasmer for being chief instructor.

We are all anxious to have the race season start. The first National race was held at Summit Point and I had the opportunity to go to a track I had never been to and work tech for the weekend. I was concerned as many people told me how the DC Regions events were from their experience, but I was warmly welcomed and had a very enjoyable time. I would like to remind each of you that are regulars at Nelson Ledges to be on the lookout for new faces and make sure that you make everyone feel welcome at Mahoning Valley events.

Don't take anything for granted as it is much better to say "lunch is distributed behind timing and scoring" than to have someone miss out. Thanks to Bill and David Pintaric and Sandi Kryder and the Matts (Miller & Carson) for allowing me to go to Summit Point with them.

The Nelson Ledges Safety Day was held on April 29th and I was unable to attend as my daughter Aura Lee graduated from Pitt with a Doctors degree in Audiology. Perhaps she will sponsor my first SCCA race car, and I had better not have any problems with Sound Control. Anyone who attended this training I would appreciate a report for the newsletter.

There are two more Drivers Schools at Nelson Ledges and we need every region having events at the track to support each other. Be sure to thank everyone who comes out to work our events from other regions and although I try to get to everyone during a weekend, it is never possible to say thank you too often.

The National Race on May 27-28 will blaze a new trail for us. The employees of Lordstown GM assembly will be our special guests and Scott Lane is giving spectators free admission to this event. I have received assurance from Phoenix Performance that there will be Cobalt's racing that weekend to showcase the product made in our back yard. Be on the lookout for visitors and be willing to lend advice and directions where needed in your usual friendly manner. Cobalt will be our pace car for the event and special programs will be printed and distributed at the gate. SCCA "Get Real Fast" brochures and past issues of SPORTSCAR will be given away also. Extra volunteers are needed to staff the welcome tent. Please contact me at 724-336-2914. We have several DVD's available to introduce the SCCA, Nelson Ledges, and you can be the greeter who introduces people who otherwise would not know Mahoning Valley Region even exists.

MVR DRIVER SCHOOL

First off, I would like to thank all the workers who came out to help.  Some of you could only come out for one day, some for only a few hours.  It doesn’t matter how long you worked - it was greatly appreciated.

To my chiefs of specialties, chief instructor & chief steward and their staffs - a huge thank you.

While we had a very small school, in attendance, we had a successful school.  Students got lots of track time.  The weather was great.

There was the little inconvenience of not being able to get into the track paddock area on Friday night until very late, but track management bent over backwards to help with this.  They made a trailer available for registration, and put up out side lighting on the maintenance building so we could do tech there.

Stewart Wright wrote of the school “Sandi, I had a great time at the school this past weekend, I’m sure I’ll be back. Everyone was so helpful, my weekend would have been much worse without everyone’s support.

Stewart

It’s comments like these that keep up us coming back.

MVR NATIONAL

Mark Memorial Day Week-end - May 27-28, on your calendars.  Last year we had 186 cars, we are hoping to break that record.

GM is providing some Cobalt’s which we will use as pace/safety cars.

This is a spectator event, so tell all your friends to come out.  There will be some excellent racing.

The schedule is elsewhere in TRACK and is on

As per usual we need workers.  We will be providing lunches both days and a steak dinner on Saturday night.
We have a neat worker handout too.  Not telling anyone what it is.  You’ll have to come and see for your self.
