JOHNSON TO STEP DOWN AS SCCA PRESIDENT, MOVES TO CHAMP CAR -  By Eric Prill

TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 16, 2005) – Sports Car Club of America, Inc. President and CEO Steve Johnson announced today that he will resign from his post, effective Sept. 15, to become the President of Champ Car World Series LLC.

Johnson served as President and CEO for SCCA since June 2000, assuming the similar role with subsidiary SCCA Pro Racing in April 2001.

“Steve has been a tremendous asset to the Sports Car Club of America,” SCCA Chairman of the Board Gary Pitts said. “On behalf of the Board, we are sad to see Steve go, but wish him the very best of luck with his new position.”

“This is one of those opportunities in your life that you simply cannot pass up,” Johnson said. “I’m very confident in the team that is in place and comfortable to leave the company and Club in its current status. SCCA is financially sound, looked upon as a leader and is in the best position ever within the industry. At the risk of sounding cliché, I’m going out while we’re on top.

“While I’m moving to another motorsports sanctioning body, it is one that is very much a partner to SCCA. I understand SCCA and its strengths. I would not have had this new opportunity without my association with SCCA, and I will remain very loyal to the Club.”

The SCCA Board of Directors will begin the process to position Johnson’s successor shortly.

COLAN'S COMMUNIQUE` - by Colan Arnold

I am pleased to announce that since Memorial Day we have been maintaining a three to four business day turnaround time for membership and license applications and renewals. The target goal is to process applications and renewals and have the updated membership card in the mail within three to five business days of receipt. A couple of caveats to this statement. First, incomplete or incorrect documents will take more time. The second caveat, this goal does not include time for the U.S. Mail. We receive a number of calls from people expecting their updated membership card to have arrived after mailing their renewal or application less than a week before. A renewal mailed on a Monday will probably arrive on Thursday or Friday. Assuming it takes four business days to process and mail the new membership card, the new card will go out in the mail on Wednesday or Thursday of the following week. The member will probably have their new membership card on Saturday or Monday, about two weeks after the renewal was dropped in the mail.

Some of you may ask why not have a goal of one business day turnaround? The primary reason for not
having a one business day turnaround goal is that the workload is highly variable. Another reason is that
in a fairly small department having one person on vacation or out sick can have a 20% impact upon productivity for the day. How variable is the workload? Fifty applications and renewals may arrive one day,
and 350 the next. Another major impact upon the workload is a weekend with a number of races or driver
schools, as many of us wait until the last possible moment to renew our membership and licenses.
Through the end of April we had renewed or issued 7,450 driver and worker licenses, of those licenses
about 45% were late renewals.
